Chad Ress was born in Louisville, Kentucky and lives in Los Angeles, California. Ress works in both commercial and documentary photography. Recent clients include MIT Technology Review, Pirelli F1, Toyota, Mexico Tourism Board, Newsweek, Liberty Mutual, The New York Times, Harper’s Magazine, and Ford. His work has been recognized by Photo District News,American Photography, Communication Arts, The International Photography Awards, The One Show, D&AD Awards, and The Cannes Advertising Festival.
Ress first became interested in photography under the influence of the extensive archive of FSA photographs at the Lousiville’s Speed Museum. His project America Recovered: A Survery of the ARRA engages with that legacy in the context of the 2008 “Great Recession” and subsequent stimulus legislation. The project was accepted by Photo Santa Fe, awarded distinction by The Forward Thinking Museum, and recently published in both Time Magazine’s Lightbox and The Wall Street Journal.
Ress is a fellow at the Center for Social Cohesion and Arizona State University, in conjunction with the New America Foundation.
